P6 2004 RACE REPORT

Well that was inaugural P6 adventure race!

As we said at the prize giving it was a bit of an experiment to play around with the traditional adventure racing format and mix into it a bit of rogaine. This meant that people knew the time they would be out for (6 hours), and because of the central transition point, no support crew was needed. These are two potential barriers to people trying adventure racing.

We wanted to encourage new people to try adventure racing and hopefully use our race as an introduction with the potential that once they have done one they will build up to a longer race. From the number of teams entered (48) I think we achieved this goal. The show of hands at prize giving asking “who just did their first adventure race” showed about 1/3 of the teams of new people have now been officially introduced to adventure racing.

Did you see the news coverage on TV3 on the Sunday night after the race? It was a great wee article that showed all aspects of the race including the mystery activities. Thanks to Ed our video man who took some great footage that TV3 liked enough to play. He is also getting it on the Sky Sport Multisport show so we’ll let you know when that happens. We’ll also have some footage on the website soon hopefully.

Apologies for the lack of water on the paddle leg. We paddled at 4pm on the day before the race to put the checkpoints out and the tide was coming in but there was enough water to get to the checkpoints without getting muddy. So it should have been perfect for the race day. Must have been a special hum-dinger low tide or something?!

Thanks to all our sponsors who provided the big booty of prizes. The Polar race vests looked great as you can see in the photos. Also a big thank you to all our helpers, including our timekeeper, Rolf Wagner and Sean the paramedic.

I have some lost property – One mountain bike!? And a helmet – please contact me to arrange to get them back.

Results are here...............with the results of all the individual activities too.

The beauty of the Electronic SportIdent system is that it records all of the checkpoints you visited and in what order so you can all compare routes. How do I read the report? you may ask:
* Each column is a control with nine controls accross then the next nine are below that
* The first line is the checkpoint number and points gained in brackets, the second row is the running time and the third row is the split between checkpoints.
* Use your web browers back button to come back to this page

The splits for the Pedal are.... [here]
The splits for the Plod are....[here]
The splits for the Paddle are....[here]

Photos are ....[here]   And a wee video clip (737kb)....[here]

So hope you enjoyed the race – we’d welcome any feedback you have on the race in order for us to make improvements where needed – just email shaun.collins@fonterra.com

Cheers
