The Turkey Adventure Run Register gives brief details of some great off-road runs in New Zealand. We want you to help build this register by telling us about your favourite runs
For each run, we list...
- The key features which make it a great run
- Approximate length
- A measure of hilliness (yes a made up word)
- A measure of roughness.
- Approximate time range for runners and walkers. The runners' range generally goes from the fastest known time to double that, with the time for a walker carrying a pack slower again.
- Topo map
- Pictures (optional)
- How to get to the parking at the start of the run
- How to follow the route, in words
- Variations on the run nearby
- Who supplied the information and when.
To qualify for inclusion, a run must...
- Be substantially (over 75%) off roads. We're talking adventure runs here!
- Be mostly runnable (over 75%)
- Be in New Zealand
- Take between 30min and 10hrs to complete.
- Have some scenic attraction
- Be substantially different from other runs already listed. Some areas offer a huge variety of runs and variations, and it's only feasible to include representative samples.
Disclaimer: While we will do our best to provide accurate information, it is physically impossible for us to check everything that goes on this site. Reader beware!
A wee shout out must go to Michael and Phil Wood who started something similar to this in 2000, which never really got out of the starting blocks with only a few runs registered. But it was a great idea which we couldn't let die.
