The Albert-Eden Local Board’s and the Albert Eden Climate Action Network, together with Lactic Turkey Events would like to invite you to participate in the inaugural Climate Action Adventure Race on the 25rd March 2026 in the Albert-Eden Local Board area.
This new event for Years 5-10, empowers young people to engage with their community through active transport, problem-solving, and collaboration. By partnering with schools, Auckland Transport, community hubs, and local organisations, the race will connect young people to sustainability, resilience, and local identity while promoting healthy, low-carbon lifestyles.
Teams of 4 students will compete in a 4-hour event. Teams will receive a map of the area and use this to navigate, using a mix of running/walking and public transport, while along the way – taking part in sustainability-based activities. Teams will navigate to as many checkpoints as they can in the time allowed, using all forms of public transport and on foot, collecting points for each checkpoint visited. To earn extra points teams can complete sustainability themed activities which will require some learning and teamwork.
This innovative event aims to help students:
- Foster a sense of kaitiakitanga for the Albert-Eden area.
- Show students how they can make a difference by taking positive action for the environment.
- Build students confidence navigating the city by public transport and reinforce safe travel practices.
- Work together as a team developing key competencies.
- Enjoy and value the ‘ecological sustainability’ of the area.
The event will start 10am. Each 4-person team will need an adult to shadow the team for safety.
A prize giving will take place afterwards with merit prizes for the top three teams and a range of small spot prizes drawn randomly. Public transport costs will be included as part of entry. For this inaugural year there is no cost.
