2018 Blue Lake 24 Hour Challenge

Woohoo! Did the 100miler in just under 20 hrs! Realised the 200km was a bit of a dream after slowing down lots after clocking the first half, so focused on finishing in a good time. The last 10 laps were a killer as I got some shin splinty type pain in my lower shin, making the downhills a mare so got to 160km and called it so I wasn’t too injured. 163km with 3,450m vertical which way more than a round the lake track should have.

I was first in the miler by a lap but ran the last few laps with second and woke up to hear he did another couple of laps to clock 31 – awesome effort Nigel.

Such a great social event as you run and chat to so many people as you go round and round. Supporting each other along the way!!

The 160km engraved hip flask in the photo at the top is a belt buckle!

Thanks to my support crew who were legends Shane Absolum and Dan Roberts

Thanks Blue Lake 24 hr challenge team. Awesome event!!!

And a couple of days later….

Hmmm maybe running the last 50km of a 100miler with bad shin pain isn’t a great idea! At least that’s what the doc said. Just had this thing installed to rest and immobilise the lower shin/high ankle for a wee suspected syndesmotic sprain.
