Pretty grim up the top of Rainbow Mountain today as we mark out the course, but the weather looks great for tomorrow’s event. The 42km event will climb this summit 4 times, twice for the 25km and just the once for the 17km. It’s worth it though - from the top on a good day, you can get an awesome view of Tarawera, Rotorua District and to the South West the Central North Island volcanos. The course is on a great variety of tracks from the beautiful DOC tracks going up and down Rainbow Mountain which go through geo-thermal activity, to private farmland tracks and forest roads. Looking at doing our Trail Run/Walk relay event? Well it's time to get your relay team entries in so we can sort race numbers and logistics for the relay! Even if you don't have final details please enter the team and if necessary leave the peoples names blank or just let us know in a comment if you are thinking of entering a team. With all the holidays coming up between now and race day we need to get supplies sorted. We have some great team names so far - get creative people! Here are the details...Share with your friends! From 0900 on Saturday 4th of May The Riverhead Backyard ReLaps 8, 12 or 24 hour relay will be kicking off. That’s right, a RELAY! Come set up a tent with a team of between 2-6 of your closest friends, whanau, or work colleagues and get lapsin’. Walk or run as many laps of the same course as the Last Person Standing event. As you’ll have a team space provided in our tent city, you can settle in with a couch, bed, excer-cycle, fondue fountain, chilli bin and get comfortable for the day!! We want this to be a big forest-y party. And we’ll be encouraging a festive atmosphere. We encourage dress ups and general crazy behaviour (keep it socially appropriate, but). Both events run the same loop (how cool would that be, passing someone who’s been hamster wheeling it for 20 hours whilst you are dressed as a panda...Will that freak them out? Probably). The trail winds through the tent city so you tag your next teammate right outside your tent. You decide how many laps people run, in what order, or what sequence i.e. a person may choose to run four laps then hand over the timer….it’s up to you!! Obviously, we are not savages, we'll have coffee and food trucks set up to keep you fed and caffeinated, as well as music to keep things pumping. On top of everything else and also for your entertainment you'll have front row seats to watch the Riverhead Backyard ReLaps ultramarathon in all it’s slow motion imploding glory. So come on, Get Lapsin!!!! http://riverheadbackyardrelaps.co.nz ...

We have 28 people already entered in the Riverhead Backyard Ultra event, all hoping to be the last person standing! 5 ladies and 23 men and when they enter we ask for an indication of how many laps they are thinking they'll do. Looks like we might have some tough competition entered already! A list of all entries to date including the 5 relay teams is here https://dashboard.eventplus.net/publish.php?id=NTpnADRV We'll profile some of these people over the coming weeks. Great to get this website and entry system open. Our newest event, that we’re doing together with the @mattrayment family. Lactic Turkey Events and the Riverhead Rayments bring to you a last person standing format event where participants run one 6.7km lap an hour (starting on the hour) until the last person is standing. And alongside this an 8, 12 and 24 hour teams relay (2, 4 or 6 people) of the same lap! This will create an awesome party like atmosphere! Teams will be allocated a tent space to set up as you please and the course will weave through the tent city allowing teams to tag their next runner right outside you tent. Dress ups are encouraged!! The winner of the Riverhead Backyards ReLaps Ultra wins a Golden Ticket (entry) into the famous Laz's Bigs Backyard Ultra (just an entry - flights etc are up to you) http://riverheadbackyardrelaps.co.nz/ @backyard_ultra #backyardultra #nzbackyardultra #vwcommercial #ultrarunning #ultrarunnz #trailrunningnz ...
